A new vista?

NUS?
NTU?

Went Spore recently to survey their U since they are having their open day. I must say I was impressed by the faultless facilities available there, am talking about NTU cuz didn't have time to tour around NUS..

The thing that bothers me now, which was actually brushed out from my thoughts but later reignited by that korean make up lover Miss M.Y, is money. And, my future.

Well, LETS SAY if I managed to enter either U in Spore. [Which is a slim chance there], and to complete the life sciences degree for 4 years. The tuition fee itself cost me about few hundred K of RM d.. And if I take loan, I can always pay it back while I'm working. But what could a degree holder work as in Spore? Max about, say, SD3-4k? dats already quite generous to myself for an assumption. And to let you guys know the fact that houses or estates in Spore is crazily expensive. A medium sized room that fits about 2 beds and a small cupboard cost u SD500 per month!

To settle down there? Or to come back malaysia and work? Earning Rm but paying debt in SD? Ouch..

And to change my attitude, because I know, IF I'm to enter there, for sure there will be no more procrastinating for me in order to catch up with the rapid foot pace..

AHH SAYA TAK TAUUUUUU

Loan, you mean PTPTN eh? Anyway, kenapa nak pegi Singapore? Mahal aite. Is it for the quality of education? What are credentials anyway, you get a degree, you get a job, you'll most probably earn enough to live comfortably. Health sciences kan? so I'm thinking courses like - pharmacy, medicine (haha), optometry (ini kaya woh! Just tanya tauke TOKYO MEGANE kat SOGO). Boleh jadi lecturer kalau nak, or bukak clinic/pharmacy/kedai spek sendiri, or work in hospitals (government/private), industry (kilang) or administration (Government, like Kementerian Kesihatan or smthg).

Oh ya, in Singapore isn't it like, only the ones rolling in money can afford cars? (Bentley yg awesome bersepah2) Since you need a certificate to actually own a car, which costs just as much as the car itself (since SG is tiny, they have to regulate traffic I guess. Also, public transport there is excellent). Still, bosan kut takda kereta I mean :p

no, its the spore loan. yea, wan2 go spore for the quality of education, because their lecturer there is wayyy better than msia's, from wat i heard la. another thing is dat, local U in msia has its medium of teaching in BM, like my fren in UKM studying microbiology and another studying dietetics, both final yr exam and thesis in BM! which.. i don think i can accept. lol.. i still prefer it in english because english will be the dominating language in my working life? leana, i think i tend to explore in research areas.. hmm.. money wise, yea its really important, bt wat is more important is to follow my heart lo, like wats my interest as the 1st priority.. optometry i x consider b4.. haha.. thinking to have something general in bio so dat i can do further research in stem cells[MAYBE] for master level.. haih.. still blur la!! lol

I see, I see. Understandable :) Good for you brian, do what you think is right.

Although...DUH, UKM memanglah Malay medium! Bukan semua local uni Malay medium lah Brian.

UPM tak. Dad teaches agriculture & entomology (Bees specifically). UPM English medium, masters paper, pHD all in english. My dad got his pHD a couple of years ago :) peeps from NatGeo attended his inaugural. Pretty cool, he even got to make a 30min documentary bout bees that aired on Discovery Channel last yr if I'm not mistaken. As a lecturer I'd say he's pretty successful. A scientist & researcher through and through.

Speaking of Stem Cells...well, this is not stem cell, but it's genetic engineering. So you might be interested, dad got his friend, Dr. Karatzas (he's Greek) for a talk in UPM (check out this short article here: http://www.upm.edu.my/?l=e&kat=1&aktvt=berita&kod=201001210211532451721654177 ). If I'm not mistaken, UPM's looking into researching such applied technologies. So you might wanna check out UPM's biotech program :)

UPM dekat je btw, you can totally just drive there and look around the campus. Whatevver you do, I hope you'll reach a decision that you can be comfortable with, Brian. Good luck!

wow, u really spent time giving me advise, really appreciate that =D
and ur dad, WOW! u must b soo proud! hmm.. yea UKM in malay medium, bt most of the courses dat im interested in is in UKM.. too bad.. ive got a chance to change my course selection, will go and ask around before doing my final changes.. about genetic engineering, i tot we have to have physics knowledge? STPM i x ambil physic, so i think i cant take dat course..
yea watever i do, i hope i will choose a right course for my future.. uni don really matters to me, as long as the course suits my nature...

Yeah, ayah sy hebat & garang gila sbb tu botak hahah.

And hey kalau nak search courses kan bleh try kat sini: http://www.uniguru.com/studyabroad/malaysia.html

Can search by course so any uni that has the course will appear. You can set the country selection to Malaysian or Singapore :)

N genetic engineering is at the masters level. So you can do a bachelor science majoring in...biotech for example, THEN you do masters. So, no need physics.

Okeh, kalau dah nak masuk uni nanti annouce lah kat your blog ;)
